Information, Advice & Support Services (IASS)
"WHAT IS IASS?"
Information, Advice & Support Services were created in order to provide advice, information and support services to children and young people with SEN and their parents. There is a branch located in every local authority, and they are statutorily required to provide free, confidential, accessible and impartially accurate services to those who need them. IAS Services believes that their duty is to provide advice, education and support for people with SEN in regard to education, health and social care.
"WHAT DO IAS SERVICES DO?"
Each IAS Service has a wide and varied role to fill within their community. They can provide impartial advice and support (often one-to-one) to parents. For example, they aim to support parents by attending meetings with them with schools and LEAs, helping them voice their parental concerns and empowering parents to make appropriate and informed choices for their children. IAS Services offer advice and support to parents, children and young people about the local offer, personal budgets, law on SEN, disability and social care, and even provide aid in appealing to the First-tier SEND Tribunal in some areas. Additionally they can help train parents, carers, teachers and Learning Support Assistants/Teaching Assistants by providing general information about SEN.
