Early Help Assessment
"WHAT IS AN EARLY HELP ASSESSMENT OR EHA?"
It is a way of assessing the needs of a child and their family and replaces the Common Assessment Framework. It is used to consolidate information about a child and young person to make it easier to identify which professionals are already involved in their care, identify additional needs that have not yet been met and generally facilitate a more co-ordinated approach to the care of the child or young person. EHAs are used as supporting documents when referrals are made.
"WHAT HAPPENS DURING AN EHA?"
An EHA cannot be carried out if consent is not given. The services on offer and the steps that will be taken after an EHA is conducted depend on the Local Authority (LA) in which the child is under. Once an EHA has been conducted it may lead to a meeting of the Team around the Child or around the Family. This is an opportunity for practitioners and families to come together to discuss the additional needs of the child or young person and how these can be met.
