A Parent's Story - W v Barnet LA (July 2016)
Our son is a lovely 5 year old who is challenged by a number of social and communication difficulties including ASD and verbal dyspraxia. He is an intelligent little boy who has excellent understanding and learns quickly, but he struggles to express himself and to relate socially to his peers.
We were given an EHC plan by our local authority which we felt to be inadequate for our son's needs. We tried to work with the LA to reach a solution, but unfortunately it was not forthcoming.
We decided to pursue the matter further and enlisted the help of Douglas and his team to try and obtain the help that our son needs. We found Douglas and his team to be very supportive and empathetic, while at the same time realistic about managing our expectations.
We went through a process of appeals and various rounds of written submissions which were time consuming and at times stressful process. Douglas and his team helped us navigate through the process and we felt reassured that we had their expertise to back us up at all times.
Prior to our allocated tribunal date, we decided to reach a settlement with the local authority, as we felt that this was the best outcome in our particular situation. Once again, Douglas and his team were supportive of our decision and they worked quickly to achieve a resolution with the LA.
We now have a very helpful contribution towards meeting our son's individual needs which we otherwise would not have been able to afford. We very much appreciate the critical role that Douglas Silas Solicitors played in achieving this outcome and we would not hesitate to recommend them to other parents in a similar situation.
