This website was originally the idea of Douglas Silas and created by Andrea Capellas, a student at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, USA who undertook a work placement with us between May-July 2005.
Andrea was majoring in Special Education and Human and Organizational Development and aspired to be a lawyer specialising in Special Educational Needs and Disability issues. She identified Douglas as a lawyer who she would be able to gain relevant experience with. Andrea graduated in May 2006 and is now at law school. She received technical assistance from a fellow student, Robert Parenton, who was majoring in Computer Engineering.
Since then this website has continued to grow under Douglas's guidance and he has been assisted by the rest of our staff in doing this. He is particularly grateful for input from Andrew Grozsmann during May-July 2006 in developing the website further and helping to improve its accessibility.
Noam Mirvis also painstakingly converted all of our webpages and factsheets from text into speech and compiled our list of local authorities and special schools between August and December 2006.
Kinneri Patel helpfully updated the website in response to recent changes and more useful information during a work experience placement in May 2007.
Alex Burch, Alice Rutter and Deborah Jacob also spent work experience placements with us during the summer of 2007 and helped add a great deal of information to, and improve the usability of the website. And in December 2007 Hayley Burne and Kirsten Farthing helped us in developing the site.
In January 2008, both Alice Rutter and Kirsten Farthing returned and worked tirelessly to help Douglas update all of the webpages, factsheets, podcasts and prepare our website for its relaunch with our new guides and email courses.
In June/July 2008, Fahreen Walji and Philippa Goulde helped update the website with new material including painstakingly creating our page of Video/Audio About SEN. In particular Philippa created a number of new pages on Types of SEN/Disability and SEN/Education Info. This was later added to by Nick Angier, Mark Turver and Zach Esdaile.
In July and September 2009 Philippa Goulde returned and continued to do a great deal of work to help update the website with new material including new Types of SEN/Disability and SEN/Education Info pages. She was assisted by Ryan Thompson who updated the Useful Information and the Video/Audio about SEN pages.
In addition, Helene Israel and Michael Bijowski continued to assist us with updating the site and Factsheets. We were later joined by Eliot Wolfson on a secondment who added further information generally.
We are very grateful to all of these people for their help and also to all the other professional and personal contacts and members of the public for their suggestions and general feedback which has been extremely valuable to us.
Our website will continue to develop in the future and we are always grateful for suggestions as to what visitors would like to see on it.
